Fall Classic Final Game Draws Over 50 Million Audience Members In the US, Canada and Japan Markets.

The thrilling 11-inning contest where the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a aggregate over 50 million spectators across the United States, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB reported this is the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

The Saturday memorable contest drew over 27 million viewers on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent improvement compared to the last finale between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English program in Canada since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – averaged over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a single network in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game series recorded 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete US average was 16.1M. The overall World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million watchers, an eight percent increase over last year and the network’s best playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in 16 different languages.
